This is a *would like to have* list of sounds we compiled a few weeks ago. Perhaps this is useful to determine what work to do next and what might be useful.

Weapon sounds (these are triggered when attacking with a weapon)
- sword
- hammer
- bow (ok)
- staff

item drop sounds
- wooden weapon (ok)
- metal weapon (ok)
- metal armory (ok)
- leather armory (ok)
- cloth armory (ok)
- ring / amulet
- potion (ok)
- gold

Ability sounds (triggered on abilities that are _not_ simple attack with a weapon
- one sound for *small* ice, fire, air attack
- one sound for *big* ice, fire, air attack
- explosions
- healing
- booster skills
- ...

Creature Sounds: on get hit, die, attack
- human (male / femal)
- Goblin
- dog
- bird
- skeleton
- zombie
- Lich
- slug

Object sounds:

- door
- treasure chest (open)
- waypoint (aktivate)

This is definitely not a complete list, but quite a bunch already. For sounds that occur very often, alternative sounds are required as well.

The lines marked with (ok) are those where we have one file (yeha).

Well, if you contact timong over at http://jcrpg.blogspot.com/, you might find some that will do from the assortment I did for that game awhile back.  I don't think there would be any license issues per se, but still just good to ask I suppose.

Actually I forgot to post an important link here also back when I did so over at the ToME 4 board:

http://www.freesound.org/

Almost CERTAINLY some-most of the sounds desired within there someplace.

Happy hunting!

Depending on what licenses will be accepted for this project, freesound might not be an option. Check this thread for a discussion of the matter.

More sound resources at
1. http://www.pdsounds.org (download nearly all, except for the most recent, in one .7z from http://pdsounds.tuxfamily.org/ )
2. http://opengameart.org/browse-menu/audio/25/10
3. 2-3 more at http://freegamedev.net/wiki/Free_3D_and_2D_art_and_audio_resources#Sound

But even with all this, there's still a need for people who browse the archives of sounds and pick out the right ones, clean them up, upload them and provide license/author information about them... :D

Why don't you use sounds from Battle for Wesnoth as placeholders, since it's open source. I'm fairly sure that you'll want to get some unique ones later, but meh ;)

This might be a little nit-picky, but with some of the sounds like item drop or attacking with a weapon, the sounds may be different at different times. For item drops, do you want the sounds to be those of the objects hitting a tile floor, concrete, or grass, for example? Or for the weapon sounds, are you just wanting the sounds of those objects moving through the air only since there are separate sounds for when monsters get hit? At least a few of the sounds should be easy to produce with a little free time, a microphone, and some imagination.

Also, depending on what kind of music you want to add to the game, there might be something useful at http://freemusicarchive.org/ . In addition, though I haven't checked out the site thoroughly, I stumbled across this when I was looking up the Free Music Archive url: http://ccmixter.org/ .

On music: West rejects using music that was not created for this game (that might have been used arbitrarily often somewhere else) - and he is the the boss in the music department. Here is the quote from the stickied music contribution guidelines:
Quote from: 'West' pid='1047' dateline='1287695317'

ORIGINALITY
Our goal is to have a unique soundtrack for the game. This means that we will only accept music that has been written specifically for Summoning Wars. If you have an existing piece that you think would fit in, we will only accept it on two conditions: 1) it hasn't been published elsewhere and/or used in other projects, and 2) you're willing to rework it slightly to fit into the thematic consistency of the soundtrack. See below.

On Sound: Yeah, gui sounds would be a big step forward. I will have a look, if this can be easily implemented with CEGUI.
Apart from that: Please try posting some specific sounds or sound sets. Posting some websites does not help very much, because there are zounds of sounds there and most of them are horrible quality. Sorting out the good ones, is the real work. The websites are known and we have already done some work on searching them. However, if sounds are still missing, that might be available there this just means, nobody of the team had time for more searching yet.

well... it has certainly something, but I think we should put character talking back until we have a full set for male and female. In this case I think it's important they come at the same time.
