hm. I think it could use a little more colour. Not much, but it's a bit too monochrome at the moment. Maybe add some red to the Summoning too. And I wouldn't rip the S in two, just touch it with the scratch.

Has anyone thought of putting two ominous hands to either side of the

SUMMONING

logo, palms up and pointing toward the observer?

Also, instead one hand could point toward the observer and the other could face palm up.

These hands could also show off some animated magic particles if you wanted to take it that far.

Or you could have a sleeved hand point from the left or right

Well, if i understand. Your idea could be cool for a cd cover of sumwars. Not for a logotype.
But you have opened the pandora box.

We need a character, maybe evil, maybe good, maybe ominous hands, but the character must identify the game, and have be related to the story.
It could be in flyers or graphic pieces to promote the game.

Well, the discussion is opened. Post your ideas guys.

If you want a evil final boss, Soren Windclaw would be a good person to turn too. There will also be a Demonlord and a very powerful Lich (well, think of Lichking, but that name is kind of taken already :)). The latter two have no pictures whatsoever as of now, but those three would be a good trio for the enemy section.

It may not have all the research as those logos, but speak a similar language and offer good visual competition against the others. Also Ironman wins, because of the strenght of his typo, and color (yellow over black is the most powerfull combination).

That was in matter of visual competence, but in matter of personality we are good.

How do you feel about the logo?

I for one like it and find it to be a considerable improvement. And the addition of the shield makes it easier for the players to identify the setting of the game as a medieval fantasy. (Because many fantasy/medieval games incorporate a shield in the logo).

The design process

The beggining:
This was the final composition.
However, It had some issues that really disturb the readability.

  • The "peaks" of the N and G letters, like claws or something, really weird, and pretty bad finished.
  • And the G has a bad design, it doesn't work at small sizes. Seems like an O or C or a G, is not easy recognisable.



Adjustments:

So, first of all i removed the pikes and simplified the font shapes.

Then I stopped in the G and maded a new one.
See the comparison between shapes.


Now it has a recognizable shape.
These are the details to justify this result:



And this is the final result:



Now it's a G.
Is not perfect, but is good.

If you have any doubt please make a quick search about: "Roman Capital Letters"

Hi, i'm trying to make some animation over the logo...
I really i'm out of ideas, so collaborate with some brainstorming please.
We will see later if we can make it possible.

But first would be awesome to have some brainstorming.

Rules to post ideas:

Write your script, explain why it would it with the logo and the game.
Upload/link some references when it's possible.

Try to draw some bullets telling the story, like a comic.

First step: my "idea"

The logo is made from steel, they fall into the ground/shield and that's what makes the camera shake.
A basic copy of what a lot of games use.

Hi,

I for one dislike the camera shake effects. I think I'm associating it with Hollywood B movies... But some animations can be great for the game menu if not overdone.
I like for instance how Heroes of Newerth animates the menu. But I don't have a link to a video displaying it. And the way they do it is similar to the old red-alert intro:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXBsW7mDgxQ. Now, HoN is fantasy themed and C&C is sci-fi, but the concept of sliding animations is similar.

I would propose something similar for sumwars:
show the logo initially, and while loading. Then have the background of the logo split in 2. The top and bottom halves should start to move away from each (sliding quickly) other, giving way to the menu.

I propose a very simple animation, the idea is attached. Add this in front of a nice background and with some good music/sound effects.

Protogenes: your idea is cool, but right now i lack of skills to do that. Maybe for now we can go with DezGusty idea which is easier, and wait for someone with more advanced motion graphic/animation skills than me, to do what you propose, is not bad at all, but i can't make it look good. :P

I really appreciate your comments, also, if you have some sounds /sfx for it, would be cool!

but the one you found is also good. Very similar to the one Protogenes is suggesting IMO.

What's not clear to me is what's the plan to integrate it into the game?

Do we just play a movie before loading the menu?
Or do we animate the items with OGRE/CEGUI
