As I'm getting more and more annoyed by gettext on Windows I'm thinking about replacing it with tinygettext ( As far as I understand they are more or less API compatible and we'd only have to change the initialization code. Another plus is that it works with .po files directly, this means the compilation step to .mo files is not needed anymore.

I'll look at it after replacing poco with boost.

General / Monthly IRC meeting

Hello all,

there was an idea about monthly chat sessions. I want to go forward and propose a date for them.
To make the date plannable for everyone I'd propose always the last Sunday of every month.

I've created a public Google calendar and added my proposed first meeting date:

We should use this to drive this project forward and guide the general direction of it. We can also decide to do it more often like twice a month?
Any other ideas?


Hello all,

as proposed I'd like to move our bugtracker and the wiki to and use their services.
This means that some content like the build instructions need to be moved.
I'll do this if nobody has any objections about this.

I have started creating the build instructions on bitbucket to get feel how it behaves and looks:

It lacks some of wikimedia's advanced formatting features.

I think there are a number of bugs resolved in the repository shouldn't we release a b version?

Hey all,

I have discovered a Pootle alternative that is very interesting. You can find it at I'm not how it works due to my limited Internet connection at the moment but it seems promising. I will try to set it up when I have got my real Internet back, but it may take a while :/ Or someone else is willing to invest some time and see how it works.

I see alot of open source projects using this already, so it may be a good way todo collaborate on trnslations. One problem I can see is that it will be harder to mix between users that use native tools and transifex users. We have to try this.

now that 0.5.5 is out of the door, how about the switch to mercurial as source contoll system? We are more developers than ever, so it makes more sense than ever to switch.

Graphics / Importing meshes into Sumwars

Hi All,

I've made two quick videos how export models from Blender to Ogre. Watch  them on youtube:

The annotations for part 2 are still missing and these are the simplest cases for importing. Usually there is a little bit more todo (and in some cases even less!) since we won't use the materials the are provided by the exporter. I don't have much time this week todo anything more than this, sorry. I'll provide better instructions next week.

Hey all,

I've created the windows installer. I need adventerous people to test the installer, since I cannot guarantee that it doesn't eat your homework and/or causes world war 3!

I've uploaded it to my dropbox account:

Please install and start the game, play for a bit and then uninstall. If you click yes when it asks if it should delete your savegames and you click yes, be aware they are gone forever. So make sure to make a backup. The savegames are located in your userprofile folder. The whole directory will be deleted.
My user directory is at "C:\Users\stefan\.sumwars"

At the beginning of the installation the installer will trigger two other installers wich sumwars needs. In the future I'll try and detect if the packages is already availeable on your system and we can skip that installer step.

1pc 48x48 PNG goes to the top right corner of the installer

1pc 163x314 PNG goes to the left side of the installer and the the welcome and goodbye screens

A icon for the executable
