I updated the gussoundtest branch. It makes use of the Ogre Timer by default now.

Hi fusion,
I started synchronizing. It's not fast, but it seems to work :-)

Hey Dratz,
it sounds good :-)

The instrumentation or tonality seems to be a bit different from the rest of the tracks (or the configuration of the echo/chamber), so it can be easily noticed that it is different if we bundle it with other existing tracks. But on the plus side, it's a great loop, so it can run on its own  ;D

I like it.

Hi Stefan,

some of the newer tracks that West composed are already checked into the "gussoundtest" branch. Menu tracks were also changed (the menu playlist is loaded from an XML now). Some sounds are also played when hovering and/or clicking buttons.

Have a look over it when you have some minutes. :)

The new tracks that were added so far are:
- goblin_rituals
- reluctant_hero
Still to add:
- inferno_behemoth
- council_dungeons
- Chris' tracks.

Hi, thanks.

@fusion: Well, I can certainly understand the meaning behind "sport ist mord" now
@dratz: yes, I won it... at least that :-) . Following the doctor's orders in the meantime.

Hi guys,

I managed to break my right hand at a football match. That makes it much harder to do ... anything really. So I doubt I will be able to do any valuable contributions during this time :(

Programming / Sound engine modifications in the tests
« on: June 27, 2013, 11:15:46 PM »
Hi guys,

sorry for not being very active lately. I could not find the time. But I hope to make up for it with this: :)

I just wanted to let you know that I created a branch "gussoundtest" (https://bitbucket.org/sumwars/sumwars-code/commits/branch/gussoundtest) to test out a new (intermediate) sound layer between SumWars and OpenAL.
I added support for fade-in and fade-out of music tracks, shuffle, repeat.
The main menu tracks are defined in their own XML file.
The intro track is now West's "Reluctant Hero".

And the regular sounds may behave a bit differently (they can be played easier in parallel).

If you test the branch, please let me know of any issues you encounter.

Looks good :D

Icons should be easy to find for those categories. I might be able to help out with some icons next week, if it will still be needed :-)

Ok, no rush yet. For what I'm trying to do, I can branch off an older version.

Programming / New Deps (openssl)

Hi,

I noticed we have a new dependency on openssl, but we don't have a package yet for it in the old dependencies :-).
Do we really need it?

Sound & Music / Re: We need ambience tracks!
« on: June 19, 2013, 06:24:32 AM »
Hi Dratz,

the piece sounds more like something out of a classical black&white horror movie. Not one of my favorites in its current form. The strings change their tonality stronger and more often than I'm comfortable with :). Maybe the addition of other instruments, would change the feel of the piece. Or maybe changing the instruments... not sure.

Maybe the piece could work in its current form, but we need to improve the sound engine and add more sounds. In D3, the music feels like being more in the background, being covered by other sounds. And you can't really hear the music once the fighting commences. We need more of these action sounds. I'm working a bit on this.

Keep'em coming :-)
