Translation & Internationalization / RE: All English language errors

every now and then we get a native speaker to help us. They do seem to vanish :s

Well, on my end as one of the original helpers from some versions back, it isn't so much vanishing, as I pop on here from time to time, but moreso a lack of being summoned to examine new content as it happens.  My thinking has been that "no news means they have everything well in hand"...

It doesn't take me a massive amount of time to offer suggestions for improvements, but due to time and otherwise I can't pour over every single file with each release.

So yes, aim me at trouble spots, new content, etc and I'll attack just like I did in the first place when I went over absolutely everything that had an English implementation at the time.

Hopefully this helps a bit.

Well, I'd reckoned on mentioning it here and there on the places I frequent on the internet that it makes sense to.  It is always random whether people take note or not though----I foresee better growth if one or more slick trailers can be produced as the game moves forward.

Congrats, though I was half expecting more things to translate. ;)

Very nice, looking forward to the continuing development.  Congrats to all on their hard work!

Sounds fair to me.

Actually I forgot to post an important link here also back when I did so over at the ToME 4 board:

Almost CERTAINLY some-most of the sounds desired within there someplace.

Happy hunting!

- complete english translation

- provide english doxygen documentation (huge task x( )

The most important part is the translation. If this one is finished, I plan to release rather earlier than later. Everything else can be put in 0.5.2 without problems.

Well, for my part on future translation helping, there didn't seem to be TOO many quests still in German---nothing that terrifies me at the very least.  ;)

You may actually need someone fully bilingual/programming literate for this doxygen thing(I know nothing of it) unless I am somehow greatly overestimating it.  But obviously I will gladly take a crack at English documentation, like if you do a Manual file or some such, as time goes on as well as ingame English text.

Very good job, thanks a lot.

I will ask you whenever I have more translations to be done :)

You are quite welcome as I appreciated the chance to work.  Even with my apprenticeship going, I should be able to handle some quests/items/skills/etc at a time as they will be in smaller chunks at once.

Well, I actually managed to finish it tonight---though that was solely due to the fact that a fair number of quests were, according to my untrained eye in the world of coding, still in German.

Still, here's everything else.  No huge issues, sent kroni a PM for whatever good it happens to do, foundation for this game seems to have started in pretty good form.

Glad to help, summon me via PM as I am needed for more in the future---though I will haunt this place some from time to time.

1.  Translation/Maybe my jCRPG sounds will get used/Maybe other areas later on
-Brian Jeffears

Well, I'll send kroni a PM, but due to my bad estimation skills, I'm already nearly 50% done with the "big one" I'll likely be finishing in any case, and hopefully sooner than the latest quoted---though it does depend on if anything else comes up.  Breaking now for dinner and catching up on some stuff, then to likely resume until bedtime.

Style wise, there have been only a few moments where intent was unclear to me---but only very, very minor in nature.  Still, I supposed the 2nd half of it has the potential to get tricky, so I will let you know if a real issue arises.  Thus far, I like the inherent style.

:Now examining .po files:

Edit:  Now just the big events.po file left.  Will eat lunch/shower then begin on it.  Filesize is larger than any I've dealt with prior to my recollection, so I can't promise I will be able to finish it today.  Perhaps by the end of tomorrow, maybe by the end of Saturday, end of Sunday as the worst case I can imagine---all assuming nothing crazy comes up for me!

Works for me I suppose.

This morning or so, I first need to finish up what I think are the last parts from hunting around the Lua files for ToME 4.   From there, I'll extract the game (I'm on Win 7 64) and see what the state of things are with those .po files and ingame---then do as much as I can keeping the below in mind.

I'll do my best to remember to contact Hangman when/if it comes down to any major stylistic departures that are not just rooted in being more correct syntax and flow wise.  I guess with kroni it might well be a case of a back and forth involving one of us reviewing the other's improvements while trying to catch any obvious mistakes that might've slipped through.  I haven't been on irc in a long time, least of all on this new PC here, so depending on how I figure that out/get around to it, I may just well use PM's here if no other entity like IM or Skype or some such is possible.

Helping to cultivate a natural feel is pretty much all I have done in my prior works thus far that needed such script revision help, as not knowing anything other than English serves as a hard limit.

Is there an obvious email address I should send to (PM me) if the forum attachment system decides not to like me when the time comes?
