Finally, I can announce the release of the version 0.5.5 of Summoning Wars. I know, we are a bit (by a few months) now, compared to the initial plans. But this is also the release with the most significant changes in a single version step. Here is a list of the most important changes:

* Installation:
   - Provided installers for Linux and Windows

* Gameplay:
   - improved stability of network gameplay
   - Changed number of inventory slots (5 big, 12 medium, 30 small, 5 belt slots)
   - Belt provides separate item slots now

* Story / Scripting:
   - added new underground part to the tutorial with some more fighting
   - provided questlog for the herbalist quest

* User Interface:
   - completely reskinned the GUI
   - created new layouts for all ingame windows
   - new main menu and character selection screen
   - new feature: assign alternative right mouse skill (switch with tab)
   - replaced most fonts

* Graphics:
   - added resetting graphics options (can be changed on next start of the game)
   - fullscreen and windowed fullscreen are supported now
   - dozens of new meshes for trees and bushes
   - several new meshes for boxes and barrels
   - new meshes for armors
   - new terrain texture
   - new icon

* Translation:
   - updates translations: German, Russian, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish
   - Changing language works properly under Windows now

* Sound and Music:
   - fixed issues with wrong sound format
   - added several new sounds of items drops

Currently two packages are available:
Source package
Windows binary

A Mac package will be provided later.

Thanks a lot to all contributors who helped with this release. And have fun playing :) !

Finally, I can announce the release of the version 0.5.5 of Summoning Wars.

Can somebody please fix the Commonwealth font, using another one similar but without restrictions to redistribute non-commercially, as explained in http://sumwars.org/forum/index.php?topic=310.0 ?

If not, I will use a generic font in Debian for the packages, so it might look less optimally as if somebody with good taste checks that it fits with the overall looks of the in-game GUI.

Regards.

I think we may replace it with deja-vu...
From what I see, Commonwealth is used in the following places:
- chat window
- file browser (so the regular user will not see this)
- main menu (save game selection frame)

I think we may safely eliminate it without seriously affecting the overall look and feel.

Another thing:
Sourceforge still has 0.5.4-winzip as the default windows download:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sumwars/

Someone with the right credentials should change it to 0.5.5

Stop the presses!

Just noticed that for new users, the game will not run on Windows.
The plugins.cfg file is written to the c:\Users\_user_ folder, instead of c:\Users\_user_\.sumwars\
It's fixed in the trunk now, but the windows installer needs to be re-created.

Sorry, I guess it's my fault, since I worked recently with that part of the code. But I missed the entry somehow. :(

Don't you guys want that people in Debian, Ubuntu appreciate your good work. I, along with mafm tried quite a bit to get the requisite libraries in Debian, libogre with cegui. Now we have done all that and the only stopper is that stupid font. While I'm not technically qualified to make a statement but would urge as a user to push that dejavu font. You could write in the changelog that this was done to make it 100% dfsg-aware/free/foss etc.

The upside of having it in debian is that ~ 120 odd distributions which use debian as a base  get the game which is probably a sizeable audience for the game. The rest is upto the team.

Looking forward to comments.

Hi,

I assume you're referring to the file [FairChar.tga]. I thought that was already removed. I'll ask around.

Not yet; the items were deleted on one branch, but a branch dedicated to materials; so someone will need to merge them. I hope we'll have some news soon.

update: the last bit of the fairchar font was removed from the default mercurial branch. The issue should be fixed with the next release.

Hi,

I posted about it several times (and other posts with the discussions about the License):
- http://sumwars.org/forum/index.php?topic=310.msg2166#msg2166
- http://sumwars.org/forum/index.php?topic=315.msg2178#msg2178

It's still there sitting in SVN/Hg:
http://sumwars.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/sumwars/trunk/resources/gui/fonts/
https://bitbucket.org/sumwars/sumwars-code/src/94312379bf73/share/resources/gui/fonts

Regards.

Hi mafm,

I re-deleted the file. I'm sorry I haven't noticed it appearing again. It must have re-appeared during a merge. I re-deleted it from the HG repository and I'll try to keep an eye out for any re-occurrences.

As for SVN, we haven't updated it in a while.

Please let us know if any other files are in breach of license.
