This video show how to texturing a medieval house.
It's not a step by step tutorial, it show how it "should" look.
You must see it as guidance.

That's a cool writeup,  cgtextures.com is not suitable for opensource because they has forbidden "Release the Textures or derivative products under Open Source Licences"

Are you planning to star an independant commercial game?

This is a recopilation of some site that have a suitable license to use here in sumwars.
If you use one of these texture you must credit the author and the website.

Hi, just something worth mentioning, from what I read on the texturelib license page ( http://texturelib.com/license/ ), we can't use the texture files directly in our game:

... you are not allowed to sell or distribute original or slightly modified images...

So I understand that they are meant to be used for artists when they want to render a scene and apply something like a foliage, so the texture would be a small part of the overall image.

Hmm I read it like we would have to heavily modify the textures to be able to distribute them.
I'd just stay away from texturelib.com for these reasons, which is a shame since it seems to be a great resource.

Texturelib is a library of quality high resolution textures. Free for personal and commercial use.
They are free for commercial and non-commercial use with the only limitation: you are not allowed to sell or distribute original or slightly modified images.

You can't redistribute the image just changing some colors...

I think we are  misunderstanding the concept of "heavily modified", we just have to use it normally.
That restriction is intended to avoid publishing the same resource into another site, he wants to get users for his website, so we can't distribute the same texture.

But if you are texturing, you Must modify those textures, you must at least make them seamless, change a the light or make them dirtier, etc. EG: if you are using a door maybe you should merge it with a wall and add a little of moss into it. That kind of stuff. Use the images as you should. Be reasonable.

So the result of the distributable files would be: 3d.mesh + final_texture.png

That's my impression, I'll try to reach him to clarify this point.

He has sent me the response, so nice from him, very quick.
here is his answer:

2011/12/19 Admin <admin at texturelib dot com>

    Hi!

You CAN use textures in your project. You are not allowed to
distribute images alone, but it is ok to distribute them as a part of
your product. There are plenty of textures that can be used even
without modifications and it is ok as long as you distribute them as
an integral part of the game.

We will rewrite the license page to make it clear. Thank you for
    pointing it out!

Great find! :-)
The used textures seem to be under CC-BY (3 of them) and CC-BY-SA (1 of them).
